A major revision is planned for publication in early November 2001. This will include 10-15 new walks, the redesign of a large number of walks to avoid main traffic areas and incorporate new reserves as well as 30 minute walking options on all walks.
Buried and often overlooked within the city limits are idyllic rivers, secret wetlands, bush reserves and many public parks that offer a private and peaceful interlude in the hubbub of city life.
This comprehensive walking guide contains 180 pages and features 60 walks will enable people of all ages and abilities to explore their city.
Each walk is accompanied by a detailed map, information on childrens playgrounds, wheelchair access, walks you can take your dog on, special sections on local history and plants and wildlife.
The book is divided into chapters that focus on a particular area of Christchurch for example; Coast, Cliffs and Caves, Into the Hills and Old Homes and Gardens. The walks have been selected so that they may be linked together to make a longer walk and designed merely as a basis for further exploring.
The book has been produced in a format slightly larger than A5 size and spiral bound for practicality. Appendices provide further information on first aid, environmental care and walking group contacts in the Christchurch area.
